I Want to Advocate for:
Raising the Juvenile Age
North Carolina remains one of only two states in the nation that still prosecute all 16- and 17-year-olds as adults, regardless of the severity of the crime. When youth end up in adult court, there is limited access to rehabilitative programming, mentoring, counseling, or even education.
Ending the Death Penalty
The death penalty is losing favor across the country. In 2016, for the first time, over half of the county does not support the death penalty. Now is the time to add your voice to the growing chorus of North Carolinians calling for an end to the Death Penalty.
Reducing the Use of Prisons and Jails
The overuse of jails and prisons is a stain on the fabric of America. The United States accounts for only 5% of the world’s population, but is responsible for nearly 22% of the world’s prison population. More than 2 million people are incarcerated in U.S. prisons as well as local and county jails.
