The Carolina Justice Policy Center has been fighting for criminal justice reform in North Carolina since the 1970s. Many dedicated individuals have been part of this organization over the years, serving in paid and volunteer roles. We honor this legacy.

In 2019, we decided to move most of our activities to the Emancipate NC project. This project explicitly centers race and structural racism as the defining feature of modern policing and incarceration. It looks to community-led organizing as the solution to this problem.

In June 2020, during the righteous uprising in response to the police murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and so many other precious Black lives, we also became the home of the Freedom Fighter Bond Fund, which pays bail and legal costs related to protest arrests. Please visit the Emancipate NC website to learn about and support our work.
