Digital Marketing Intern

Carolina Justice Policy Center seeks a digital marketing intern with a passion for nonprofit and social justice work. This is an unpaid, remote work opportunity for 10 hours per week, with occasional flexibility to meet in person. This intern will get hands-on experience developing and growing a social media following for a growing organization, building awareness around issues such as mass incarceration, police accountability, death penalty and raising the age. Primary responsibilities include:

Social Media Content Development
Overall, social media strategy will be a combination of:

  • sharing relevant, local, NC-based criminal justice related news stories
  • driving traffic to the 4 “Areas of Focus” pages on the website
  • driving traffic to, and developing educational graphics
  • reposting older blog stories that are still relevant, such as opinion pieces by CJPC staff
  • creating and promoting upcoming events that CJPC staff will be part of

Social Media Outlets

  • Facebook: 1-2 posts per day, create Facebook events for all upcoming events CJPC staff will be attending
  • Twitter: Up to 5 posts per day
  • LinkedIn: Developing a following by sharing relevant opinion pieces and upcoming events, connecting with other organizations that do similar work, and foundation staff

Newsletter and Blog Content Development

  • Intern will be expected to assist with writing summaries of local news stories for CJPC e-newsletters.
  • If interest and writing ability is present, intern may also contribute articles on relevant topics for inclusion in the CJPC blog, newsletter and social media outlets (with bylines.)

Google AdWords

  • Create AdWords campaigns within Google AdWords budget that drive traffic to the to the 4 “Areas of Focus” pages on the website and the
  • Continually check on status of campaigns, adding relevant search terms recommended by Google, adding negative keywords, ending ineffective/out of date campaigns
